Kyoto to Shirakawago day trip by Shinkansen and a car via Gifu-Hashima Station

A good route from Kyoto to Shirakawago is to take the Shinkansen bullet train from Kyoto Station to Gifu-Hashima Station, and then take a Shirakawago tour by car. This tour is ideal for 1-6 people. In this case, you have to go to Gifu-Hashima Station by yourself.

It is also possible to drop you in Takayama after the Shirakawago tour. Please note that the quantity and size of your luggage matters the number of persons that our car can accommodate.

This itinerary is for a tour of Shirakawago only. It does not take into account bad weather or road conditions. If you also visit Takayama or Gokayama, your return time to Gifu Hashima Station will be 3 hours later.

We usually use a van (Toyota Estima or similar size), which has a capacity of up to 6 guests. If you are 4 or less, you can sit comfortably. If there are five or six of you, it is a bit cramped since three people sit in a row. We may prepare child safety seats if you are with children.

For a smaller number of passengers we can use a smaller car. If you prefer a more luxurious Toyota Alphard, we can get one for you. Other types of cars, such as a minibus, are also available. Prices depend on car size etc.

Prices of Kyoto to Shirakawago tours

Estimated price (including tax) for this tour is from 75,000 JPY in case of our standard van.

Prices include a driver/guide, highway tolls, parking fees, fuel, and sales tax. Shinkansen Tickets, meals and admission fees are not included.

A return Shinkansen ticket from Kyoto to Gifu-Hashima is approximately 10,100 yen per person (adult, low season price) for a reserved seat. Please note that the Shinkansen Nozomi does not stop at Gifu-Hashima Station. So you have to choose Hikari or Kodama. You can use the JR Pass for Hikari and Kodama.

Payment and cancelation

Tour guests are required to pay 10,000 yen as a deposit at the time of reservation. The payment of the deposit can be made by WISE, Revolut, PayPal, credit card, or bank transfer. The balance is to be paid in cash, WISE or Revolut before or on the day of the tour.

If you cancel two days before, the day before, or the day of the tour for any reason, the deposit will not be refunded. Please check our cancelation policy before you proceed.

Tour will be cancelled if there is a possibility of snowfall during the winter season. In winter, highways can be closed and bullet trains delayed. If this situation occurs before the tour starts, the deposit will be refunded even on the day of the tour.
